In early september, one of Lethy’s cousin Ricardo and his family (Ricardo jr, Pamela, and Vicky) came to visit NYC for a weekend.

The day they arrived Lethy took them on quick tour of Manhattan then we went out to dinner.

Later that weekend we went to a Met’s game.

At the very end of August, Lethy, Dave and myself headed out to PNC for a little festival.

Halestorm was one of the openers – I had not seen them before nor heard much of their music.

They were a lot of fun – particularly the drummer – who spends as much time flinging drumsticks around as using them to hit drums.

Their set was pretty short and included a duet with the singer of Evanescence.

We saw Halestorm again just before New Years, so more there.

Chevelle was on 2nd to last.

They are OK, their guitar + bass combination of play works really well musically, but I don’t think their songwriting is all that great nor their lyrics.

Evanescence sounded great as always.

The current backing band even sang the backup vocal parts instead of the weird silence from previous times.

The set and setlist were pretty much the same since the last time we saw them, but it was still fun.

Later in August we went to see Alanis with Steve at the Wellmont.
She sounded incredible and I was surprised how many of her songs she played guitar for.
Her stage presence was peculiar. She walked in a V shaped path the entire time first towards stage right, then backup, turn 90 degrees and towards stage left, then backup again…
Over and over endlessly.
During her most popular songs she also seemed a little distraught at the sheer volume of the singalong, which was quite loud.
We forgot the camera for this one, not that there was really much picture worthy.

Well this is insanely overdue…
A couple weeks after Lethy returned from Utah we went and saw Coldplay.

They gave out little bracelets at the start and had signs hanging indicating to wave your arms.

It turns out each bracelet had a bunch of LEDs in it and they were controlled via bluetooth or RF or something in time to the music. It was pretty awesome.

As is common with bands based on slower songs really hinging on vocals, I think their performance musically was good but not great.

They did have a lot of fun performing, including standing out in the crowd on a platform.

All pictures here.

Setlist below.
